Sheep & goat farming is endemic to Uttarakhand and forms an integral part of the rural economy contributing in some form or the other to rural household income and family nutrition, besides producing the much needed biomass for agricultural activities. This activity is carried out in thousand of household across the state and provides employment to the marginal and landless farmers.

Strategy adopted by the board
Providing facilities to shepherds on migratory routes, insurance to farmers and their livestock, breed improvement through distribution of elite quality rams, Prophylactic & Therapeutic Veterinary Services through 05 Mobile Veterinary Vans, promotion of machine shearing through camps and training, formation of Producer groups for creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
